This is our reproduction saarinen organic armchair. The Organic Chair is a comfortable small reading chair and was made in 1940 as a contribution to the New York MoMA's "Organic Design in Home Furnishings" competition. Formally speaking it was ahead of its time, but due to the lack of effective manufacturing techniques, never went into series production. It was not until after 1950 that it became possible to manufacture larger quantities of organically shaped seat shells and market them. Originally Designed by Saarinen 40's and 50's, our replica brings classic mid-century design into the home or office. Vitra makes them today with black stained ash legs. We made our legs with genuine (and expensive) American Walnut finish that looks just so much better, in our opinion.
